Alexz Johnson
Alexz Johnson
Alexz Johnson is a Canadian singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, NY. With her success in TV and film over the years she has built a supportive following which has allowed her to pursue her passion for creating a unique pop/soul/folk sound. In early 2012 Alexz launched a Kickstarter campaign in which she raised funds to support her U.S. touring debut... this summer's Skipping Stone Tour.

"Alexz Johnson exudes all of the highs and lows of her life and lays them out in her lyrics and completely bares her soul for all the world to hear. Truly emotional, gut wrenching and epic!" - Rob Daily (Daily Unsigned)

It's been all systems go for Hawaii-born, New York-based Charlene Kaye since releasing her sophomore album "Animal Love," which reached #15 on the iTunes pop charts upon its release this May and has been hailed as "a tour de force of Kaye's songwriting talents and her voice" (the Pop Stereo) and "fluent in classical piano as [it] is in glam rock" (the New Yorker). In addition to touring relentlessly and playing CMJ and SXSW festivals, the ambitious songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has earned enthusiastic reviews from PopMatters, VH1, Huffington Post, NPR, The Atlantic, the NY Deli, the Village Voice and more for her commanding voice, deft guitar playing and electrifying live shows. She has shared a bill with the likes of Big Boi, Minus the Bear and Holly Miranda and has over a million views on her YouTube channel. This past November and again in May, she went on two national tours supporting musical theater/internet sensation Team StarKid, earning her thousands of new fans. Her single "Dress and Tie" featuring good friend Darren Criss of Glee was featured in a promo for NBC's Chuck, had extensive play on radio stations nationwide, and was selected as official boarding music for Delta Airlines.

With a sound that fuses the buoyant pop of Robyn and Niki & the Dove, the vintage soul of Prince, and the sentimentality of Rufus Wainwright, Charlene Kaye is a force whose music is at once classic and contemporary, of the times yet unmistakably timeless. With a rapidly growing fan base and more touring on the horizon, Kaye shows no signs of slowing down, picking up steam even before she leaves the ground.
Jay Stolar
Jay Stolar is on a journey. With an exceptional voice, infectious melodies, and honest lyrics, the New Jersey born artist has become a respected member of the NYC music scene. After writing hundreds of songs and delivering thousands of performances, he has truly arrived at a signature sound.

In 2009, Jay immersed himself in artists like Otis Redding and Bill Withers. What emerged was the band Jay & The Birds and their wonderfully executed "Soul Volume 1" EP. Again, though, something told Jay this retro approach still wasn't right for him. He began working on a more authentic and modern sound.

In early 2011, Jay explored his new vision. He spent time alone traveling throughout the North East writing and arranging new material. He flew to England for a short tour and writing retreat with top songwriters. It was an accelerated period of extreme hard work and focus, which resulted in an album's worth of material and a unique identity.

Everything culminated at CMJ In October 2011 when top audio engineer, Ari Raskin (Robin Thicke, One Republic, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West), came to one of Jay's shows at Rockwood Music Hall. Jay's band that night was comprised mostly of former members of Julius C, and the chemistry impressed Raskin. He immediately offered to record the band at Downtown Records Studio in NYC, which led to the recording of a 4-track EP to be released in Spring 2012. Jay Stolar, along with that same band played showcases at SXSW this year.
Misty Boyce
Misty Boyce
Newcomer Misty Boyce's eponymous release debuts March 30 on Modern Vintage Recordings. The New York-based label produced, mixed and mastered the 12-song set at the famed Cutting Room Studios. The New Mexico native, whom the Tuscon Scene dubs "Regina Spektor-esque," wrote all the songs on the album, which features a duet with acclaimed singer-songwriter Ari Hest.

Boyce began her career as the keyboardist for The Naked Brothers Band, appearing with them on "The View" and the "Today Show", and has also accompanied Tim Williams on tour and at performances at SXSW and Sundance Film Festival.

After studying jazz piano at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Boyce moved to New York to pursue her own sound, where she met Patrick Ermlich and Eshy Gazit at Modern Vintage Recordings. With influences ranging from Tori Amos to Radiohead to Miles Davis, Boyce writes all of her own music. She explains, "I think there is something otherworldly about writing. A line or a melody will come out and later I'll read it or hear it and think 'this is healing me and I wrote it.'"

Similarly, it is this connection that drives Boyce's live performances, whether solo or with her band, which includes drummer Nir Z (John Mayer, Chris Cornell), guitarist Thad Debrock (Ari Hest, Jonas Brothers) and bassist/MD Eshy Gazit (The Roots, Lisa Loeb) and occasionally a string quartet. The Daily Iowan asserts that "her voice drips soulfully against the piano as she croons lyrics of heartbreak and toil," and the Las Cruces Sun-News says Boyce is "at once poignant and playful…combining provocative, often clever, lyrics with her soulful vocals and vibrant piano playing."
