Boca do Rio is a Brazilian-American samba-funk collective born in San Francisco’s Mission
District. Blending the roots of Brazil with the energy of the Bay Area, they’ve crafted their own
style of psychedelic samba—a groove that’s funky, fluid, and irresistibly modern. Founded by
Kevin Welch and Alex Calatayud and later joined by Jacob Aginsky, Boca do Rio fuses
traditional sambas and choros with electro-funk layers, creating an organic sound that’s both
steeped in tradition and made for the dance floor.
